Size of WSN market

Though, WSN still seems to be in the university laboratories only, recent market research shows the tremendous growth opportunity. Recently various analysis company did a market research and arrive at many common opinion about the size of the market of WSN.

There are more than 100 OEM development companies who develop OEM of wireless sensor network. On World claims that more than one million nodes were already placed into action in 2005. I believe most of them should be in university research lab. There was a growth of 300% in deployment of mess network of WSN in the year 2004-2005. This company also claimed that there dozen of deployment of already done in industry where numbers of nodes were more than 100. There several cases among these where deployment was done in industrial harsh environment. If you believe the claim of this analysis company, then you will notice a wow! factor in believing that  Several deployments of 1000s of nodes per network including one with 715, one with 3500 and one with 25,000 deployed nodes per network used in real customer applications. 

This company also claims that by 2010, there will be 168 millions of sensor nodes deployed in the actual application. This will amount to USD 6 billion market size of wireless sensor network. Still one question not answered so far. . . when the indian service provider company set up a business unit inside their unit to deliver end to end business solution using wireless sensor network

So the service industry in WSN domain also

I have seen the analogous between the word of microprocessor/microcontroller and wireless sensor network, the way todays IT service provider company provides service for the buisiness need to the rest of the world.

Consider a case, how a service  provider company do business in embedded system and typically in microprocessor and microcontroller domain. They purchase these chips from large manufactuer, (e.g. intel 8085A) and do rest of the things to package them into end-to-end business solution. In this process they need to design so many hardware, write low level embedded software, and finally the end applications.

Since the costs of the microprocessors are very low in comparision to the wireless sensor motes, lots of business happen just for end application development. The WSN, with so much promise already done, can we acquire the same strategy like microprocessor microcontroller based industry.
